'L' Drivers – Learning to Drive

Unlike a lot of driving instructors, I will not simply teach you how to pass the 'test'. Instead, I will teach you how to drive properly - that is safely and competently. Passing the driving test is only the start of your learning experience. I will provide you with all you need to help you develop yourself into a safe and competent driver.

My teaching methods actively encourage you to self-develop as soon as possible. Your learning process will therefore be quicker, and you will require fewer lessons, thereby saving you both time and money.

I am a Grade 6 Advanced Driving Instructor (ADI) which is the highest grade awarded. Please note that less than 6% of ADIs gain this grade. My record speaks for itself with a consistently higher-than-average pass rate (84% in 2009, which is more than double the Carlisle and national pass rate). The pass rate for 2010 currently stands at 86%.

Driver Instructor Training

If you are looking for a rewarding, fulfilling and worthwhile career as a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor, then all you have to do is contact me, even if it is just for an initial chat to get all the relevant information you need.

As an accredited DSA trainer, my work has been inspected by the DSA to ensure that I deliver only top-quality training. This will be on a 1 to 1 basis to ensure that all training will be tailored to your own individual and personal needs, and your own learning requirements.

To qualify as a DSA Driving Instructor, you will need to pass three separate exams as follows:

  • Part One - a written exam of theoretical knowledge and a Hazard Perception exam.
  • Part Two - a test of your practical driving ability based on the DSA syllabus.
  • Part Three - a test of your instructional ability.

All necessary training materials, including books, CDs etc. will be provided as part of my training programme, and I will give you all the support, advice and guidance you will need to help you through the process. I have trained driver trainers at the highest level within the police service.

Advanced/Defensive Driver Training/ Eco. Safe Driving

Almost everyone who drives considers themselves to be a good driver. Usually this is an opinion based on self-assessment.

But we need to be honest about our driving skills. Have you ever been involved in a collision or a near miss? Have you ever been frightened or felt vulnerable behind the wheel of a vehicle?

Why not improve what is a life skill, and make your driving safer, more enjoyable and more economical. I can teach you to drive in a way which will impress your family and friends (without you needing to show off, of course!).

I have been teaching advanced driving at the highest level to operational police officers, for over 11 years. This training is structured on 'Roadcraft', the police drivers' handbook, supported by other publications including the Highway Code. There are enormous benefits to this method of training. Not only is it enlightening and extremely enjoyable, but it may quite literally save the lives of you and your passengers. Almost 3000 people were killed on British roads in 2007 and 28000 were seriously injured (life-changing injuries). So why not consider broadening your driving skills and learn to drive in a way that maximises the protection of yourself, your passengers and all other roadusers?

Fleet Driver Training

As the title suggests, this training is aimed at the corporate market, and it addresses the legal and moral obligations placed upon companies that employ people who drive as part of their employment. The Health & Safety at Work Act  1974 and The Management of Health & Safety at Work Act 1992 amended in 1999, places obligations on employers to ensure that all relevant risk assessments are undertaken.

The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 became law on April 6th 2008 and this legislation could make employers and senior management personally liable to prosecution should it be found that adequate risk assessments and/or training had not been provided to employees. The car is now deemed to be a 'place of work'.

Fleet Driver Training has enormous benefits both for the employer and employees and has to be regarded as a 'must' even on economic grounds.

I have vast experience in delivering Fleet Training to various corporate bodies.
