 Learners

Both my sister and I had been with other driving instructors in the past, but we were not progressing as well as we had hoped. Chris was recommended to us, and the difference in his teaching was amazing. He explained everything in simple, straightforward, easy to understand ways, and also gave the reasoning behind it. Our lessons were much more productive and enjoyable and the learning process so much quicker.

We both really enjoyed our lessons with Chris and soon passed our driving tests with excellent results, and now feel really comfortable and confident with our driving.

We would highly recommend Chris to anyone either learning to drive or looking to improve their driving.

His dedication, professionalism and caring attitude is excellent.

I failed my driving test four times despite using two different instructors. Chris was recommended to me by a third person so I gave him a ring. Straightaway I could tell he knew what he was talking about and he explained a lot over the phone that I did not know previously. I was under pressure to pass my test prior to going abroad, so I booked three and a half hours of tuition with him. The way Chris explained things left me in no doubt about the correct procedures etc. His patience and understanding were brilliant.

I went for my driving test full of confidence and knowing exactly how to drive, and more importantly, what not to do!

Not only did I enjoy the test, but I passed with only one minor fault. This was way beyond my expectations.

I could not thank Chris enough, not only did he get me through my test, but now my driving is much more structured and the dark clouds have cleared!

Chris has taught two of my sons and two of daughters to drive over the last six years. Every one of them has enjoyed their lessons with Chris and were full of enthusiasm. The most lessons any one of them needed was fifteen, and they all passed their tests at the first attempt. His teaching methods are very effective and interesting, and he certainly brings the best out of people.I cannot praise him enough.

Instructor Training

I am currently employed as a Police Advanced Driver Trainer with Cumbria Constabulary Driver Training Department at Penrith. Chris was my supervisor in this role from when I commenced employment in October 2002 until Chris retired from the Police Service in March 2006. Prior to this role I was a self employed DSA Approved Driving Instructor in Lancaster, and I had many years experience teaching learners. All my subsequent specialist training was delivered by Chris and this included a 3 week Standard Response Driving Course followed then by a 4 week Advanced Car Driving Course. I had to be successful in each course before untertaking the 6 week Police Driving Instructors Course. A rolling development programme was developed for me by Chris, and this was supported by continual self development within the training team. This was some of the hardest work I had ever experienced but the support and input from Chris was first class. I was amazed at the level of professionalism shown by Chris and the amount of knowledge and skill he possesses is incredible. I have learned so very much from Chris and would highly recommend him to anyone wishing to become a driving instructor or looking to vastly improve their driving knowledge and skills.

Advanced/Defensive Driving

For anyone wanting theoretical tuition and practical advice on defensive driving, I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris Hudson. His wealth of experience in all sorts of driving situations is made very clear by the amount of information he offers, not only on the interpretation of road signs, road layout and road markings, but also on how best to control the car by use of position, speed, gears and acceleration. Some examples are: the need to understand and be fully aware of the hazards indicated by road signs, and to be ready for these hazards in plenty of time; the need to look and think much further ahead than the car in front; the need to make eye contact with other drivers if the situation requires it; how best to position the car in order to get the longest sight lines round bends; how gaps in the hedges can be useful for looking 'across' bends; and how to adjust speed with minimal use of gears and brakes (good for 'green' driving). Chris puts across all his thoughts and tips (which are much more than I have given above) in a clear, understandable and non-critical way. I found my time spent under his instruction has given me considerably more confidence in coping with road situations and other road users. It has also made me very much more aware of how important it is to give full attention-all the time- to the road ahead and the road behind. I thought I was a very good driver before I went out with Chris and was amazed how much I did'nt know. A wonderful experience.
